Concerns and Request for Director MX
Overview:

The following information is an email campaign FOR current and future Macromedia Director users. There are many concerns about the development of new technology and the loss of others. This campaign is a set of requests to Macromedia by the Director community to ensure the stability and quality current and future developments of Director and Director related technologies.

Below are 3 sections:

Section 1: Fill out the information. It is important that this section is filled out because it shows that there are individuals (not mass email) that are genuinely concerned.

Section 2: "Individual concerns and Remedies" is where you can add your own comments.

Section 3: "Group Concerns and Remedies" is the concentration of concerns provided by feed back from user groups and emails sent to shocksites.com .

Concerns and Request for Director MX:

The following content of this email is being sent by an individual.
Below is a list of concerns many developers have with Macromedia Director. There are two sections to this email. The first is the "Group Concerns and Remedies" and the second is the "Individual Concerns and Remedies".

The individual sending this email agrees and supports the content expressed below. There may be additional comments expressed solely by the individual in the "Individual Concerns and Remedies" section.

Group Concerns and Remedies:

1.) Concern
Flash Communication Server is very expensive compared to the Shockwave Multiuser Server (which comes with a free 2000 connection limit with a licensed copy Director Shockwave Studio).

Remedies
a. For users that have a license of Director Studio MX, Macromedia should offer a crossgrade for Flash Communication Server.
b. For users that have a license of Director Studio MX, Macromedia should also upgrade the Flash Communication Server that comes with Director MX from 10 user license to 150 user license. We understand that you can give away 2000 connections (like the MUS) but we would request more that 10 connections.

2.) Concern
There is no OSX version of MUS.

Remedy
Port the current version of Shockwave Multiuser Sever to OSX. Offer all license holders of Macromedia Driector Studio MX a full version of the Shockwave Multiuser Server (2000 connections) for download. Allow the current Director Studio MX serial number to work with it.

3.) Concern
Many companies and individuals have put much time and resources learning and implementing Shockwave Multiuser Sever. Macromedia no longer supports this product.

Remedy
If there will not be any support and new versions from of it then we request the source to be made public in order to allow continued development by the community. Open source would insure the growth of the MUS.

4.) Concern
Flash Communication Server can be used directly with Director, Flash and perhaps other devices that we are not aware of. The name should reflect that.

Remedy
It should be called Macromedia Communication Server. This represents the products true nature. Also it will help relieve tension with Director, Cold Fusion and other related communities.

5.) Concern
No, multiple Undo

Remedy
Please add this feature as a free update for Director MX. It is in all of your other products and is highly needed.

6.) Concern
There are certain bugs when using LDM (linked Director Movie), as you probably already know. Things crash, certain mouse event will not work, and so on(some of these are documented in Macromedia Technotes).

Remedy
Please fix them and post a free update for Director MX.

7.) Concern
There is no support of Unicode.

Remedy
Add this functionality to the next release of Director. We would like to see for more direct developer involvement. This could be an extension of Team Macromedia where a set of developers is included in the planning
